Job Description
Under general supervision, to assist in a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of a variety of building and grounds facilities and structures; and to assist in related work as required.
 
 
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
 
Performs the labor tasks in assisting skilled workers on work projects concerned with their specialties; assists in general repair and maintenance work on structures, related physical facilities, and equipment; repairs doors and windows and assists in installation of hardware; assists in repairs to desks, chairs, and other furniture and equipment; assists in the removal and replacement of faucets and fixtures, and placement of washers and gaskets; assists in making repairs on heating systems; assists in the installation and repair of electrical systems; mows and rakes grass; trims hedges, shrubbery and cultivates bushes, trees, and other plants on project property; assists in cleaning gutters and other drainage structures; assists in the cleaning and repair of vacated tenant’s units.  Reports to Mechanic and/or Property Manager
 
 
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
 
Education and Experience:  Any combination equivalent to graduation of high school/vocational degree and one year of experience in general construction and/or building maintenance work.
 
 
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
 
Knowledge of common methods, materials and equipment used in carpentry, painting, electrical and mechanical trades; ability to use, operate, and care for power and hand tools related to the building and mechanical trades; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to work with others.
